Since the beginning of Tom Ford’s career at Gucci, he has created some of the most exquisite white dresses. One in particular stood out to me when I was just a child, reading my mother’s Vogue. It was the September issue, as I recall and I came across a Gucci advert, photographed by Mario Testino starring model Georgina Grenville. It was for Gucci’s Autumn/ Winter collection in 1996 (see image below). My love affair for both Tom Ford and Mario Testino began, and I immediately I fell in love with dress, hoping one day when I grew up I could wear one just like it.
Recently on a shopping trip to Tom Ford’s store in London, I saw this vision in white in the window. The manager must have thought me crazy as I have a photographic memory, and am almost like an encyclopedia when it comes to Tom Ford’s work, and I immediately thought of the moment I first saw this dress in 1996. Of course Tom Ford has had many magical white moments, and I am happy to say I own some of them, but this dress from his new collection for A/W 2015… it’s another magical moment. (see image below)
